VERNACULAR HOUSE
The project for this vernacular house in the Danube Delta region aims to harmoniously blend with the unique environment while utilizing local materials and architectural details and techniques.
The design is inspired by traditional Deltaic architecture, featuring steeply pitched thatched roofs and large porches for shading and protection from the sun and rain. The use of vibrant colors, painted shutters, and decorative woodwork pays homage to the traditional Deltaic architecture.

The general design was restricted by the topography of the site, which unfolds downwards the Razelm lake. The demi-basement is only visible from the lake side, while from the street level the house is similar in size with the surrounding traditional houses.
The clients, originating from the area and attached to traditional values, requested a few spaces that are specific to traditional living in Dobrogea: a fireplace in the center of the living room for the family to gather around, a traditional clay hearth in the kitchen (“lejanca”), a russian steam sauna, a wine cellar for the wine they produce in the autumn.
