URBAN RENEWAL
In a contemporary intervention on a historic building, the goal is to highlight the original, not to compete with it. Contrast becomes interesting when it is intentional and controlled, when new proportions, materials and details are designed in such a way as to bring to light the existing qualities, not to blur them.
A clear line of demarcation between old and new preserves the authenticity of the construction, and modern materials can add a new perception of the architectural object.
In this project in the center of Bucharest, we preserved the façade in its entirety with its classic details such as the pediments, frames, pilasters, decorative panels, but also the original carpentry and access steps.
For the first floor and attic – the newly added levels – we used a contemporary language through volumetry, chromatics and materials, but we continued the rhythm of the vertical voids and brought coherence to the entire building.
An intervention with subtle accents that lets history breathe and makes it visible from a new perspective, without imitating it.
